This Months golf tip from Anthony is a tip to improve your pre-shot routine. How would you rate your pre-shot routine? Robotic? Disciplined? Inconsistent? Non existent? A poor pre-shot routine causes a poor shot! If your Pre-Shot Routine is any of these then this tip should help you. One of the best ways of increasing the number of good shots and improving your score is to install a Pre-Shot Routine into your game. This will help make your good shots a habit.
Now try a standard Pre-Shot Routine which you can use:-
First have two areas:
The Thinking area (back away from the ball)
The Playing area (once addressed the ball)
1. Position you golf bag behind the ball in the Thinking area.
2. Stand behind the ball and Ask the question "How is the very best way for me to play this shot?" Take into account your Target, Wind direction, Yardage, Lie of the land.
3. Then the decision can be made as to what is the best club to use for this particular shot.
4. Now visualise the ball flight in your mind’s eye. This is the ideal flight of how we want the ball to fly, where we want it to land and ultimately finish.
5. Practice swing behind the ball but facing the same way as you would if you were playing the shot keep the shots flight in your minds eye to get a feel for the swing required for the shot.
6. Now walk into the Playing area and set the leading edge of the golf club perpendicular to the target. Position your body (Feet, Knees, Hips and Shoulders) so that it is parallel to the ball to target line.
7. Look at the target and look at the ball with the target in your minds eye, settle yourself over the ball, one last look at the target.
8. Waggle the club to relax, and then swing.
Repeat this time and time again to make it instinctive and natural. If you feel that you need to alter the routine to suit your game that is fine. However make sure that you do it every time. Hopefully this Tip will improve the consistency of your shot and your enjoyment of the game.
