I am a Class AA PGA Golf Professional and have 14 years experience in the golf industry specialising in the following areas Golf Tuition, Golf Operations, Custom Fit and Golf Fitness.
After 7 years at The Belfry working as a PGA Professional. I am now the Head Golf Professional at The Tytherington Club in Macclesfield.
During my 7 years at The Belfry I worked in various different departments including Golf Sales as Golf Sales Account Manager looking after over £1.4 million worth of golf business. The PGA National Golf Academy as a Teaching Professional, teaching a wide range of golfers from beginners to elite and county standard. Golf Operations as an Operations Manager overseeing the daily running of the 3 golf courses, The Belfry’s Custom Fit Centre as a Custom Fit Specialist fitting golf clubs to the customer exact specification and the Leisure Club as a Gym instructor.
Through working at The Belfry I have been able to observe many different people choosing different avenues in which the profession can lead. I have experienced many different job roles within golf at the Belfry but my real passion lies within teaching and improving golfers.
The completion of my PGA training in 2005 in which I achieved 10th place in the Trainee of the Year Awards with the PGA of UK and Ireland provided me with a sound knowledge base of the fundamentals of the golf swing, business management, equipment technology, sports science and rules of the game. From this I have been able to further develop my teaching knowledge and business acumen base by attending numerous training courses and CPD events. Having worked in the various domains of golf I have an excellent knowledge base of the interplay between departments including golf operations, fitness, and have been able to develop specialist knowledge within these fields. This has included a well rounded knowledge of custom fitting in particular for PING and Titleist.
Having coached consistently for the last 8 years I have developed a well rounded appreciation of various different coaching styles from various professionals including Pete Cowan (European tour coach), Alistair Davies (PGA Tutor / Ladies European Tour Coach) and Gary Alliss (PGA Swing Tutor and Today's Golfer Top 20 Golf Coach in the UK and Ireland.) to name but a few. I have utilised in practice a variety of teaching systems including Quintec, GASP and V1 gaining valuable knowledge of the advantages / when to use these with customers.
I have a sound business acumen knowledge base including profit and loss accounts, KPI’s, performance management, sales and marketing.
Over the past 2 ½ years I have developed and built the teaching academy at The Tytherington Club and delivered a high quality service to all members and guests. I have increase the Junior membership usage from 4 golfers to 18 and continue to grow them. I have taken an active role in promoting golf in local schools developing a programme as part of their weekly sports lesson.
Whilst working at The Belfry I have been fortunate enough to observe and experience many different teaching professionals coaching styles and beliefs. Along with my PGA studies these observations benefited me greatly in developing my own coaching ethos
I have been able to put this into practice through coaching all levels of golfer at the PGA National Golf Academy. Access to the use of the superb facilities has enabled me to teach all aspects of the game.
Over the past 10 years I have gained experience of many different types of tuition. These have included junior, beginner, seniors groups, ladies groups, school, corporate golf clinics, fun zones, video lessons (including MAT-T), coaching county golfers, on course playing lessons and coaching the Oxford University team.
